April 28th Epsom night / Flat preview
A very interesting evening that featured Nick Blofeld, Managing Director of Epsom Racecourse talking about the new grandstand and Lydia Hislop (RUK), Mark Howard (author of 'Ahead on the Flat' and RUK and David Williams (Ladbrokes) on the new flat season - under the chairmanship of our President John Maxse. Plenty of horses to follow but the Charity Bet was well beaten in the 2000 Guineas.
Aintree preview - National's 100/1 winner tipped!
No not really - but an entertaining evening in the company of the Racing Post's Andrew Barr, William Hill's Kate Miller and Barry Faulkner from At the Races in the chair was enjoyed by another good attendance in our Kensington Forum (Holiday Inn) venue. Karabak was stepped up in distance for his Aintree race but if not the trip was not enough of a problem he was also burdened with the panel's William Hill £50 charity bet which was clearly altogether too much for him to carry to victory.
Cheltenham preview meeting
A panel of David Dickinson (BHA Handicapper), Claude Charlet (RUK pundit and blodstock agent), Matthew Taylor (ATR) and Eamonn Faulkner were kept in Check by Mark Johnson chairing the preview as they galloped through the four days of the festival with plenty of wisdom and not a little wit.
Charity bet was £50 win on Karabak in the Ballymore Novices' Hurdle.
Mick Fitzgerald evening
Those who were able to attend January's in town meeting were exceedingly well entertained by the very genial Nick Luck in conversation with Mick Fitzgerald looking back over his career.
Interspersed with video footage of some of Mick's greatest rides the evening progressed from Mick's early beginnings to his greatest moments in the sport - winning the Grand National on Rough Quest and the Gold Cup on See More Business.
Mick was also fully occupied during the interval talking to members of the audience and signing copies of his book 'Better than Sex' by the shed load!
