THE RACEHORSE SANCTUARY & REHOMING CENTRE

Stonehouse Stables, Cowfold, West Sussex

The Racehorse Sanctuary is run by Graham Oldfield and Sue Collins and is home to the legendary Moorcroft Boy, who since ending his racing days has been a flagship horse for retired racehorses. Having won a number of top-grade races, Moorcroft Boy was almost written off for dead after suffering the only fall of his career at Aintree when he broke three vertebrae in his neck.

Pioneering surgery and many months of intensive care followed. Moorcroft Boy recovered well enough to come back into training with David Nicholson, "The Duke", with one race as the aim - the Grade One Scottish National at Ayr.

Moorcroft Boy won the race in magnificent style, by some distance despite being 16lb out of the handicap and carrying 2lb overweight. As he was led into the winner's enclosure the decision was taken to retire him and gift him to Graham and Sue to become the founder horse for their new enterprise.

The Racehorse Sanctuary takes horses at the end of their racing career, whether fit or injured, with the aim of retraining then for a new life and then carefully re-homing them. If this is not possible the horses stay at the Sanctuary for the rest of their lives and all horses remain the property of the Sanctuary, thereby safeguarding their future whether re-homed or not.

Both Graham and Sue have many years' experience with thoroughbred ex-racehorses and have successfully re-homed over 100 horses in the 11 years they have been in operation.

They have dedicated their lives to caring for these horses and providing them with a safe and happy life after racing.

The Racehorse Sanctuary is a registered charity and completely self-funding, relying on the generosity of all those who love racing and the thoroughbred racehorse and care about its future.

You can find out more about the charity by visiting its website on the racing links page
